Who we are: Our membership is made up of lactation consultants, lactation support providers, dietitians, nurses, health care professionals, peer supporters, and any individuals who are interested in promoting and protecting the rights of breastfeeding and chestfeeding families.

Mission Statement: Providing, promoting and coordinating breastfeeding education, support and evaluation through local coalitions, health care providers, educational institutions, and other interested individuals.

IBC Goals:

  1. Assure access to comprehensive, current, and culturally appropriate lactation care and services for all women, children and families.

  2. Ensure that breastfeeding is recognized as the normal and preferred method of feeding infants and young children.

  3. Ensure that all state and local laws relating to child welfare and family law recognize and support the importance and practice of breastfeeding.

  4. Increase protection, promotion and support for breastfeeding mothers in the work force.

New scholarship opportunity

Breastfeeding: A Gift That Lasts a Lifetime

Iowa Breastfeeding Coalition scholarship opportunity!

  • Iowa Breastfeeding Coalition is happy to support breastfeeding projects throughout the state of Iowa that educate parents, community members and/or healthcare professionals about breastfeeding and breastfeeding support. Projects may include, but are not limited to: poster presentations, education materials and breastfeeding events.

  • To be considered, projects must be not-for-profit.

  • If applying for materials, please keep all receipts. Upon approval, IBC will provide 50% of your requested funds. Upon completion of your project, IBC will collect receipts and disperse the remaining balance of your scholarship.

  • All approved applicants are also strongly encouraged to present their project at an IBC meeting, or provide a summary in an upcoming newsletter to inspire and educate other coalition members to do the same.

  • Submit articles for and receive the IBC Newsletter which is published three times a year that is full of relevant breastfeeding information and resources

  • Vote and run for office

  • Receive notice of our meetings where you will learn what is happening in the legislation regarding breastfeeding in the workplace, listen to speakers who will provide education on breastfeeding, learn how you can help support breastfeeding for all babies in the state of Iowa, become acquainted with other breastfeeding advocates

  • Access the members only section of the website.

  • Social networking through Facebook

  • Help plan educational opportunities for the public
