Breastfeeding Education for Iowa Communities
Half day training developed by the Iowa Breastfeeding Coalition. Designed for anyone working with breastfeeding mothers to enhance knowledge of breastfeeding management. Proposed locations include Harlan, Polk County, Ames, Chariton, Cherokee, Corydon, Mason City, Orange City, Spencer, Fort Madison, Waterloo, Manchester, and Council Bluffs. Lactation Counselor Certificate Program
by The Center for Breastfeeding
5 day comprehensive breastfeeding management training to become a CLC (certified lactation counselor). For more information and to register, visit the website http://www.healthychildren.cc/. $100 discount available for both 2012 trainings for members of the Iowa Breastfeeding Coalition and the Breastfeeding Coalition of Polk County.
Scholarships are available for both 2012 trainings. Download scholarship application here. Scholarship applications must be submitted 60 days prior to the course. Completed applications may be submitted to Pat Gilliatt.

6 Steps 4 Success
Training for Hospital Nursing Staff
Training focused on promoting, protecting, and supporting breastfeeding in the hospital setting. It is available free of charge to all birthing hospitals in Iowa. The intended audience is nurses and other professional staff that provide direct care to mothers and babies in birthing hospitals.
Objectives:
- Describe four ways breastfeeding benefits mothers, babies, and society.
- Discuss strategies for promoting and supporting breastfeeding in the hospital setting
- Identify six of the Ten Steps for Successful Breastfeeding
